Your Life is excited to announce that one of our ambassadors, Kathryn Tyler, has won the 2016 Red Women of the Year Start-up Award, along with her co-founder Nikki Cochrane, for their innovative social enterprise, Digital Mums.
A shining example of where hard work, dedication and sheer ‘girl power’ can take you, the two co-founders set out to train mums in social media management, thereby helping mums find flexible work while at the same time helping small businesses with their social media.
Two years later, they found themselves on a mission to change the world with their #WorkThatWorks movement which highlights the huge number of mums (almost 70%) who would go back to work if they could access flexible working, and just how much that would benefit the economy in real monetary terms (a staggering £62.5 billion). To date, Digital Mums has trained nearly 500 mums and helped support them back into work, as well as helping nearly 500 businesses with their social media – impressive figures, huh?!
Kathryn and her co-founder, Nikki have had the most amazing 2016 – they were both named Digital Mavericks by Campaign magazine and two of the 40 women over 40 currently shaping the internet by the Telegraph’s Stella magazine. Just before the Red award, they also scooped a Marie Claire Future Shaper Award!
Kathryn studied Maths and Science at A Level and her passion for STEM subjects has remained. She understands that skills like problem solving are needed for any job and freely admits that analytical skills have proved essential for running a business, where you constantly have to reflect and refine what you are doing to ensure success. The future is definitely digital and STEM skills can only help!
Studying Maths and Science might not make you a Red Woman of The Year overnight but it might just help you on your way – like running your own business and becoming a successful entrepreneur – just like Kathryn Tyler, Your Life ambassador!
