So who was Picard? That’s Jean- Félix Picard, and what did he do in his 62 years?


– Picard was the first person to measure the size of the earth to a reasonable degree of accuracy.

– He was a potential inspiration for the fictitious Star Trek character with a similar name.

– Picard collaborated and corresponded with many scientists, including Isaac Newton, Christiaan Huygens, Ole Rømer, Rasmus Bartholin, Johann Hudde.

– He has a book called Mesure de la Terre.

– The PICARD mission, an orbiting solar observatory, is named after Picard.

– There is a lunar crater named after Picard, on the southwest quadrant of Mare Crisium.
